Pray For Those That Spitefully Use You and Persecute You - Matthew 5:44
Reading through these teachings one by one makes you really have a wakeup call. For these teachings are the wisdom of God and that is so far removed from what we in the flesh want to do.
OUR TEXT
Matthew 5:44 (New King James Version)
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
I have a soft heart and I often give to people and yet I do not often feel used. It is a terrible feeling to know that you are being used. Jesus says rather than get angry with people that use us,we should pray for them. Prayer is a powerfull thing and if Jesus tells us here to pray for people that spitelfully use us and persecute us then it is going to make a difference.
One thing that changes when you put a lot of effort into praying for a person who is persecuting you, is that your attitude toward them changes. You see that they don’t know any better, and you find yourself feeling a little sorry for them.
It’s such profound wisdom that Jesus has told us. To spend five minutes each day praying for a person that both spitefully used you and at present is persecuting you puts you in the right frame of mind when it comes to that person. You can deal with the person better when you are investing timein prayer for them.
It’s kind of like exercise and food. When you are doing hard exercise each day, this has an effect on your food choices. You don’t want to waste two hours exercise in one meal. So too, when you are praying for a person that is doing bad things to you, your attitude toward them changes.
Have you got people in your life like that? Perhaps you can pray for them!
Be Blessed
