Teaching in Church Using Church Media
When Jesus roamed the earth over 2,000 years ago he would teach using illustrations and parables. When he would teach us to not be critical of others He used a parable about removing a board from your own eye before attempting to remove a speck from someone else’s. When He taught about loving your enemies He relayed a parable called the Good Samaritan.
Today churches all over the world are recapturing the benefits of instructing through the use of illustrations. We have at our use the best story-telling medium in the world…video. Many churches are now armed with quality video projection tools which now make using media and video a very dramatic way to teach people the Gospel.
Because of the relative small expense of video production gear many churches are beginning to use their own ideas to tell powerful stories using this technology. But other churches that don’t have the money, time or creativity to create video pieces are now also able to leverage this exciting tool by using media made by other churches or production houses.
Churches from all around the world are now creating short sermon videos a part of their regular gathering. With the accessibility of the internet they are able to watch, buy and download high quality videos straight to their computer. After download they can then simply create a DVD or show it right from their computer.
Churches are also integrating other creative media such as countdown timers (5 minute clips that countdown to the start of the sermon), graphics, and message outline packages to create captivating and engaging teachings of the Word of God.
For those churches that make the decision to step out and benefit from technology they are finding that the old complaint of church being “boring” is a thing of the past. Jesus was definately not boring in his sermons and it is up to the churches in our time period to teach the Good News in as captivating of a way as possible.
