Why Religion is Not That Important For Me!
Religion is probably one of the most powerful aspects of our daily life. It brings courage, belief, trust, peace, hope, unity and togetherness to all humane being, society and even to the nations. It makes people happy, respecting each others and be in harmony. It inspires people to imagine and go for the sky and beyond. People do extraordinary and unimaginable things beyond it own limits. At the same time, unfortunately it also brings hatred, sorrow, pain, misery, destruction, separation, fight and unnecessary killing.
Most of the conflicts, arguments, wars and fighting between society, race, people and country are for religious reason. It is written in full details in the history of each and every nation around the world. And history never lies. There is also no doubts whatsoever that the modern days wars are also here today for the very same reason. Men are already in mars today - nothing is almost impossible for men today - yet we still fight for the same reason our ancestors used to fight for. Ironically, something has never changed and the saddest part of all is that we still have no clue about it.
I am Buddhist by birth and there are also people from different religions in our society. We go together to church, Hindu temple and Buddhist monastery without any problems. And we never discuss or argue for the religious issue, let alone fight each other. Each and every member of the society is welcomed to temples, monasteries or festivities of the other religions. We freely come and visit to each others’ place in any time. There was not even one issue concerning the religion until today.
In the early eighties, Christian missionary arrived in our place and encouraged people to convert to Christianity and we saw few people of the society following them. Remarkably we noticed that they were mainly the poor people of the society who were there only for the financial reason and just limited to that, nothing else.
I really do not know what to make out of it but I strongly believe that the reason for this lie somewhere else. Religion is not all and everything in our society. There are more important things in life here to the people like earning living and taking care of the family. Religion takes back seat here for reason. Feeding your family and raising your children is far more important here than arguing with your neighbors about his religion. May be that is the reason why we are always in peace and harmony here in this little place called our home.
Religion is our birthright and individual should be freely allowed to choose and follow as per his choice and belief, but never be forced. No religion is right or wrong, neither it is superior or inferior. No religion is good or evil, neither it is big or small. They are all the same and equal importance on the eyes, hearts and belief of the respective followers. We should always respect and accommodate the other religions. We must not also look down or insult your neighbors just because of his different belief. Unless we are able to learn and accept the differences, the fighting and violence will continue and we will never be able to live together in a peaceful and harmonious society in this world.
